Anabolic steroids and bodybuilding: what are the dangers?
Posted on: 11/15/2013What role do anabolics play in sport?
Bodybuilding enthusiasts often share the same goal: to forge a body that is not only slender but also, and above all, well-sculpted and perfectly muscular. Achieving this goal requires regular, intense effort. Steroids, which are widely used in sporting circles, can provide a little help, but beware: this type of product is far from harmless.
Anabolic steroids: definition
Anabolic steroids are synthetic hormones manufactured in laboratories. Their function is to reproduce the effects of testosterone, an androgenic hormone naturally present in human beings (testosterone actively contributes to the production of proteins in cells, and to their development, particularly at muscle level).
Anabolic steroids and bodybuilding
If anabolic steroids are so popular with athletes, it's because taking them regularly leads to rapid mental and physical changes.
Mentally, athletes are often more motivated and determined than ever. They feel stronger and have a steadier morale. Physically, there is a rapid increase in muscle mass and strength. Athletes have more stamina and a greater capacity for recovery.
Anabolic steroids: the dangers
Steroids should not be taken lightly, as they can have unpleasant or even dangerous side-effects if taken carelessly: severe acne, baldness, tendonitis, sterility, impotence, dependence, cardiovascular problems, etc. Psychologically, abuse of anabolic steroids disrupts the mood of the athlete, who often becomes very aggressive. Unfortunately, these are not the only negative effects of steroids: the list goes on and on.
It's worthnoting that the success of anabolic steroids has given crooks the prospect of huge profits. As a result, a horde of anabolic steroids have sprung up and are sold via parallel markets. These more than dubious products are a scourge for athletes.
